Estimated electricity costs
Important: Results depend on your entered assumptions. Actual power draw, energy consumption, tariffs and usage vary. Standing charges are excluded; these are estimates, not measured bills.
How it works
Energy per shower (kWh) = rated power in kW × minutes ÷ 60. Multiply by electricity unit price in pounds per kWh. Weekly cost is cost per shower × showers per week; yearly cost assumes 52 weeks.
Worked UK example
Example: a 9.5 kW shower used for eight minutes consumes about 1.27 kWh. At an illustrative 26.32p/kWh it costs approximately 33p per shower before water charges.
Before relying on your estimate
Electric showers heat water as it flows, so the selected power setting and length of each shower matter. Check the model rating and whether you use its full-power setting. The estimate covers electricity only, not water and sewerage charges.
Common questions
Does a longer shower cost more?
At the same power setting, doubling minutes roughly doubles electricity use. Flow rate and power settings may also change water and energy consumption.
Does this include water charges?
No. It estimates electricity only. Metered water and sewerage can add to the total cost.
Which electricity price should I enter?
Your unit rate in pence per kWh appears on your energy bill or tariff information. The starting value is illustrative and should be replaced with your actual rate. Visit Ofgem for official energy price information.
